What is IV Therapy and Who Needs It?
Studies estimate that approximately 90% of all patients at hospitals receive IV fluids at least once. However, a large number of patients are advised to undergo further IV therapy even after they are discharged. Some don’t even have to go to the hospital and can receive IV therapy at home based on the doctor’s orders. When medications, fluids, or vitamins need to be delivered into the vein via an IV cannula or another method, the doctor may prescribe this treatment.
It’s usually advised for those facing anemia, vitamin or nutrient deficiencies, dehydration, immune disorders, and bacterial infections. In home settings, a trained Registered Nurse (RN) can safely administer an IV infusion while following the doctor’s orders and various precautionary measures. This approach saves you the trouble of visiting a hospital or clinic and helps you avoid exposure to infections in clinical settings.
